Schemas

Schemas are cognitive structures in human beings that act as the basic building blocks of intelligent behaviour or knowledge. A schema can be understood as a chunk of mental representations of the world, which we use both to understand and respond to situations. Apart from the schemas of innate reflexes, which are innate, all schemas form as a result of biological maturation and environmental experience. The development of knowledge in a person refers to increase in the number and complexity of schemas that a person has.
